SUMMARY: Jackson State University (JSU) and the Southern Heritage Classic (SHC) are involved in a lawsuit over a breach of contract. JSU had entered into a 5-year agreement in 2019 to participate in the SHC until 2024 but wants to withdraw after this year to join the SWAC Classic games. The SWAC Summit Management Corporation, which owns and operates the SHC, accuses JSU of being forced into the new agreement by the SWAC. They are seeking 5.4 million dollars from the SWAC and 1.8 million dollars from JSU. Head football coach Deion Sanders is also named in the suit for allegedly stating on Instagram that the SHC is not profitable for JSU. JSU has not yet commented on the matter.

Jackson State University and the SWAC Division are facing a lawsuit from the Southern Heritage Classic.
