Pascagoula parks being built thanks to food and drinks tax
SUMMARY: In Pascagoula, Mississippi, childhood memories are being created through parks funded by a 2% tax on restaurant food and drinks. Since 2013, this tax has generated about a million dollars annually, supporting playground equipment and a ten-million-dollar sports complex. City Manager Justin Larsen emphasizes the tax’s role in enhancing the 2012 parks and recreation master plan. Families, like Charlotte Jerde’s, cherish experiences at these parks, noting their importance beyond just facilities.
