South Mississippi looking to add more high school officials

SUMMARY: With the high school football season a month away, the Gulf Coast Football Officials Association (GCFOA) is addressing the critical shortage of referees. Troy Soa from the association shared that they have expanded recruitment efforts using social media and outreach to schools, encouraging former players to officiate. Despite last year’s struggles with coverage, they increased their officials from 105 to 125. However, 40% of the current officials are nearing retirement, prompting a need for new recruits.
