South Carolina: Voluntary evacuations underway near Table Rock State Park fire
SUMMARY: A wildfire at Table Rock State Park in South Carolina has prompted voluntary evacuations as smoke fills the air. Deputies discovered the fire while searching for a missing hiker, and it trapped both hikers and deputies temporarily, but no injuries occurred. The fire, caused by negligence from four teenage hikers, has burned 10 acres and is currently contained to the top of the mountain. All park trails are closed. A burn ban is now in effect across South Carolina. In nearby North Carolina, several wildfires are burning, including the Deep Woods fire, which has destroyed structures and remains uncontained.

Hall, Kitts rally top-seeded South Carolina to Sweet 16 in 64-53 March Madness win over Indiana
SUMMARY: The South Carolina Gamecocks (32-3) will face either fourth-seeded Maryland or fifth-seeded Alabama in the Birmingham 2 Regional next week, following a significant comeback against Indiana. After a poor first half, the Gamecocks dominated the third quarter with a 20-7 run, ultimately winning the game. Coach Dawn Staley noted that the team’s halftime chaos helped identify their issues. Indiana’s Chloe Moore-McNeil acknowledged their errors as crucial to the outcome. Despite showing resilience, Indiana struggled against South Carolina’s depth and talent. Indiana coach Teri Moren suggested that the women’s tournament should consider moving to neutral sites for fairer matchups.

‘You have to be smart’: Community urged to follow burn ban as Covington Drive fire lingers
SUMMARY: Crews are continuing to fight the Covington Drive fire, which has burned 259 acres and is 80% contained. A recent statewide burn ban, effective since yesterday, aims to prevent further fires. Residents in the Walker Woods community emphasize the importance of following the ban to ensure safety. Despite recent rain, experts warn the risk remains high due to dry conditions. Daryl Jones, South Carolina’s forest protection chief, highlights that 60% of wildfires are human-caused and preventable. Residents like Jerry Gallagher stress the need for awareness, as he recalls the danger of being evacuated in the middle of the night.

Even though it’s been almost three weeks since the Covington Drive fire started, it’s not out just yet.
With the most recent statewide burn ban that went into affect on Friday, people in Walkers Woods, a Carolina Forest community, said it’s important to follow the rules now more than ever.
“It’s really important to have the burn ban,” a Walkers Woods resident said. “It makes us as the community rethink what we need to do for our homes and be safe and maybe what we put around our house.”
