SUMMARY: Jackson State University’s Sonic Boom of the South Marching Band performed with Usher during the Super Bowl halftime show in Vegas. JSU alum and former Sonic Boom member Cortez Bryant, now CEO of Blueprint Group, suggested the band to executive producer Jesse Collins. Bryant sent clips to Collins to share with Usher, and the band made history with their performance. The show was a well-kept secret, and the band’s appearance on such a big platform was important for HBCUs. This came after JSU band alums were touring with Drake and J. Cole, adding to the list of memorable moments for the students.
