Father of slain daughter says her death is the result of flawed judicial system
SUMMARY: After a multi-agency manhunt, Bricen John Rivers, 23, was arrested in Harrison County for the murder of ex-girlfriend Lauren Johansen, 22, whom he previously assaulted and kidnapped in Nashville. MHP reports 4 fatal crashes over Independence Day enforcement period
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Highway Patrol wrapped up its extended Independence Day Holiday Travel Period with 6,476 citations issued statewide. The enforcement spanned from Thursday at 6 a.m. to Sunday at midnight, addressing a longer weekend due to the Fourth falling on a weekday. Among the citations, 876 were for seatbelt violations, and 149 DUI arrests were made. Troopers investigated 141 crashes resulting in 45 injuries and four fatalities. The fatal crashes occurred in Pearl River, Scott, Sunflower, and Pike counties, with each incident still under investigation. The tragic events involved collisions and vehicles running off the road, resulting in multiple deaths.
