SUMMARY: Gateway Church is experiencing significant upheaval following scandals involving its leadership. In the wake of founder Robert Morris’s resignation due to sexual abuse allegations from an Oklahoma woman, his son, James Morris, has also stepped down as the future senior pastor, a position he was set to assume in 2025. The church, which boasts a membership of 100,000, has left unclear who will lead moving forward. Meanwhile, Pastor Max Luc will serve as the interim teaching pastor. Despite the serious allegations against Robert Morris, he faces no criminal charges as the statute of limitations has expired.

The shooting, which injured two students, is the second incident involving gunfire related to a school fight in two days; a 17-year-old was killed the day before outside a McDonald’s. Youth counselor Bill Pad warns that many teens don’t recognize the potential consequences of their actions, especially when firearms are involved. He emphasizes the importance of parental guidance in discussing the risks of violence. Pasadena ISD plans to provide crisis counselors and increased security next week.

Trump, Zelensky and others react to White House spat
SUMMARY: Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, visited Washington seeking support against Russian aggression but faced a confrontation with President Trump in the Oval Office. Their meeting devolved into a shouting match after Zelensky expressed distrust in Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Trump and his advisers reportedly kicked Zelensky out, resulting in the cancellation of a minerals deal signing and raising concerns over future U.S. military aid to Ukraine. While Trump urged for peace, Zelensky rejected accusations that he wanted to prolong the war. European leaders voiced their support for Ukraine, criticizing Trump’s treatment of Zelensky during the tense exchange.

Ukraine’s president traveled to Washington with hopes of a new deal and a boost in support in its war against Russian invaders. Instead, he was asked to leave the White House. Both President Trump and President Zelenzky have responded in separate interviews. And other lawmakers and world leaders are taking sides.

Tense moment in Texas House committee over DEI policies leaves agency head in tears
SUMMARY: During a Texas House Appropriations Committee hearing, tensions flared as Rep. Brian Harrison questioned the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) about race-based hiring practices linked to their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies. TWDB Chair L’Oreal Stepney became emotional over the accusations. Democratic Rep. Nicole Collier criticized Harrison’s questioning as offensive, emphasizing the qualifications of Black professionals like Stepney. The governor praised Stepney’s leadership, while Harrison defended the exchange as professional. Expert Eric McDaniel noted a growing distrust in institutions and highlighted the importance of understanding DEI beyond racial contexts, warning against potential negative consequences of ongoing attacks on such policies.
