Social Security COLA raise: How much will recipients get in 2025?
SUMMARY: The Social Security Administration will announce its cost of living adjustment (COLA) on October 10, with current estimates predicting a 2.5% increase for 2025. This forecast, provided by The Senior Citizens League (TSCL), reflects a decline in inflation. TSCL advocates for a minimum 3% COLA, highlighting that many seniors rely heavily on Social Security. The projected increase is smaller than last year’s 3.2%. Rising healthcare costs are not included in COLA calculations, prompting lawmakers like Rep. Ruben Gallego to propose legislation aimed at boosting benefits. Historically, COLA adjustments have varied, with the highest being 14% in 1980.
