Smith County hospital being revamped for re-use
SUMMARY: Work has begun on a $1.5 million project to convert the old Smith County General Hospital into the Smith County Emergency Hospital. The project, developed in partnership with Covington County Hospital and South Central Regional Medical Center, has initiated the demolition phase. The new facility will provide essential emergency services, including radiology and lab work, though it will not have overnight beds. It’s expected to boost the local economy by employing around 80 people and generating $30 million in output. The new hospital is anticipated to open in about six months, significantly enhancing local emergency care availability.
