The storm, which previously made landfall in Florida, has led to rescues of hundreds trapped in flooded areas. Record rainfall, potentially up to 25 inches, has triggered flash flood warnings and curfews in affected regions. At least five fatalities have been reported in Florida and Georgia, emphasizing the storm’s severity. President Biden has authorized federal disaster assistance for Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina as the storm may strengthen before moving inland again.
