Slidell residents still recovering from tornado 6 months later
SUMMARY: Today marks six months since tornadoes struck Slidell, where recovery efforts have been slow despite debris being cleared and some homes rebuilt. On April 10, the EF2 tornado devastated areas, including Old Spanish Trail and City Drive. Local businesses, like Echo Builders and Easy Lube, faced significant destruction but fortunately had no injuries among their employees. Both business owners reported a lack of tornado alerts before the storm, which caused initial panic. However, the community quickly rallied to support those affected, highlighting a spirit of resilience as Echo Builders prepares to rebuild in a new location.

Could hundreds of UMC nurses go on strike this month? We'll know Monday.
SUMMARY: Hundreds of nurses at University Medical Center (UMC) are voting on whether to strike due to unmet demands in ongoing negotiations with the hospital. The union, which made history last year by unionizing, has faced obstacles in discussions, including UMC’s sporadic engagement. Key issues include staffing ratios and pay proposals. The vote takes place over two days, with results announced on Monday; if a majority support a strike, the union must provide a 10-day notice before proceeding. UMC has contingency plans in place to maintain care levels during any potential strike, emphasizing that the hospital remains operational.
The union has been in negotiations with the hospital since March.

Sunny and dry days continue
SUMMARY: During a lighthearted conversation about food preferences, particularly regarding potato salad, the discussion shifts to the pleasant weather in southeastern Louisiana, which is ideal for outdoor activities. Meteorologist Derek Sibley shares a sunny forecast with temperatures in the low to mid-80s, clear skies, and light winds. A cold front will bring cooler temperatures next week, while the tropics are monitored for Tropical Storm Leslie, which poses no threat. Another low-pressure system off Africa has a 50% chance of tropical development, but also threatens no immediate danger. The overall weather pattern remains dry and sunny.
