SUMMARY: Local heroes were honored at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on First Responders Day for their bravery. Among those recognized were Sergeant Garrett Lyy, who saved a 10-year-old girl’s life after a domestic violence shooting, and K9 Vinnie, the first dog to be recognized by the rodeo for his work in tracking murder suspects. Additionally, 13-year-old DJ Daniel, battling brain and spine cancer, was celebrated and named an honorary member of the Armed Forces Appreciation Committee. In total, 19 first responders received recognition, and all were part of the Grand Entry, marking a memorable occasion.
