SUMMARY: The Jackson Fire Department mourns the loss of their outgoing and hardworking fireman, Gerald Bates, who was affectionately known as “Buster.” Bates was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound, and his partner, Tammy Williams, has been charged with his death. Chief Willie Owens expressed gratitude for Bates’ work and the impact he had on the department, stating that he will be greatly missed. The department will attend Bates’ funeral with assistance from firemen from other cities. The funeral will take place tomorrow at New Horizon Church at 11 a.m. Bates’ memory will last a lifetime in the hearts of those who knew him.
