SUMMARY: Sponsored by ITA Community College and Thompson Gas, the “Skilled to Work” series highlights the vital role of truck drivers. Patrick Patterson, a truck driver for two years, reflects on his passion for the job, emphasizing that essential goods depend on their efforts. With a national shortage of 880,000 truck drivers, companies are eager to recruit more. Training programs like ICC’s equip students with necessary skills through simulations, preparing them for a lucrative career where first-year drivers can earn $60,000 to $70,000. This week also marks National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, encouraging acknowledgment of these essential workers.
