SUMMARY: Medical field shortages are affecting the respiratory therapy profession. Respiratory therapists specialize in treating breathing issues, a skill that became crucial during the pandemic. Becoming a respiratory therapist only takes two years of education and offers a dynamic and intense career. They handle conditions like asthma and are responsible for keeping patients alive during critical situations. Despite often being portrayed differently on TV, respiratory therapists are the ones operating life-saving equipment in real hospitals. To enroll in a Respiratory Care Tech program, prerequisite courses in anatomy, physiology, and algebra are required. The profession is projected to grow by 23% until 2030, with an average salary of over $60,000 per year.

Federal funding to help Lamar, Perry counties bolster law enforcement staffs
