Sidewalk leading to old bridge completed
SUMMARY: An update on the River Avenue Bridge sidewalk reveals it is nearly ready for pedestrians. Forest County Board President Terry Bell mentioned ongoing grant applications to enhance the area, particularly focusing on the aging bridge’s safety features like higher railings and better lighting. Collaborative efforts with Hattiesburg and Petal aim to revitalize the bridge for community events. While the new bridge improves access, Petal business owner Cynthia Holland notes that traffic is still slow and hopes for increased business following the project‘s completion. Petal Mayor Tony Ducker announced landscaping plans for the medians, expecting costs around $335,000, to be addressed by spring 2025.
