Should ‘Elvis’ have won an Oscar? Certified movie critic thinks so
Unsurprisingly, Everything Everywhere All at Once dominated the 95th Academy Awards, but what was surprising was that Elvis did not win a single award.
SuperTalk Mississippi’s own Tanya Taylor, a certified Critics Choice Awards voter, explained that Elvis not winning was a major shock. The Baz Luhrmann-directed film was nominated for eight Oscars and was even favored to win in multiple categories.
“I really thought ‘Elvis’ was going to come away with a lot of wins and they were shut out,” Taylor said. “I was very, very surprised, just because it was such a well-executed movie. I really thought they were going to get costume design, makeup, cinematography, and production design.”
Some experts, including Taylor, also thought Elvis star Austin Butler was going to take home the award for best actor. Butler, who played the King of Rock n’ Roll himself, was ultimately ousted by Brendan Fraser of The Whale.
“I really thought maybe the momentum was for Austin,” Taylor explained….
