How to tell if its real or fake
SUMMARY: Scammers are increasingly using deceptive tactics to trick individuals, with phone calls and mail scams becoming common. Starkville Police Chief Mark Ballard highlights QR codes as a new method for scams, urging caution when receiving unsolicited codes. He outlines four red flags to identify scams: claims from familiar organizations, assertions of winning something or being in trouble, demands for immediate action, and requests for specific actions or payment methods. If targeted, individuals should contact their financial institutions and authorities. During the holidays, scams rise, making vigilance and skepticism essential in avoiding victimization.
