Several Memorial Day ceremonies scheduled for Monday
SUMMARY: Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, but it is primarily a day to honor and remember those who sacrificed their lives serving our country. Communities are gathering this holiday weekend to commemorate fallen service members. In Tupelo, a Memorial Day ceremony will take place at Veterans Park at 9:00 AM on Monday, featuring Mayor Todd Jordan, Councilman Buddy Palmer, and a retired General. In case of rain, the event will move to the Tupelo Aquatic Center. The town of Bruce will also hold a Memorial Day program at 11:00 AM on Bruce Square, with guest speakers like VFW Auxiliary State President Barbara Franklin, followed by a flag retirement ceremony.
There will be Memorial Day ceremonies in Tupelo and Bruce on Monday.

Petal police continuing investigation into deadly early-morning shooting
SUMMARY: An investigation is underway in Pedal following an early morning shooting that left 27-year-old Bernell Gold dead. Around 3:15 a.m., a woman reported to Pedal Police that her ex-boyfriend was banging on her door. After he forced his way inside, another man in the home shot him. Gold later died at the hospital. The Forest County Coroner identified the deceased, and no arrests have been made yet. The investigation continues.

South Central Regional Medical Center in La reported 1.5 inches of rain, with a current temperature of 76°F. Walt Mass in Columbia had 0.22 inches of rain, and William Care University recorded slightly under 2 inches of rain with temperatures of 77°F and 79°F, respectively. The high was 95°F before rain; average is 91°F, with a record high of 103°F in 1938. Rainfall is above average for the year. Lightning and rain are decreasing, mainly affecting Green and George counties. Tropical Storm Beryl could bring rain to South Mississippi early next week. Scattered showers and storms are expected over the weekend with temperatures in the 70s to 80s.
