Setup underway for Ingalls-built U.S.S. Richard M. McCool’s commissioning ceremony
SUMMARY: The USS Richard M. McCool, an LPD 29 amphibious ship, has arrived at Pensacola Naval Air Base, preparing for its commissioning ceremony. Built by Engles Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, construction began in 2018, marking this the company’s 13th San Antonio-class destroyer. The 684-foot vessel is designed to support Naval operations and honors WWII Captain Richard McCool, a Medal of Honor recipient. As the ship’s crew anticipates the ceremony, emotions run high, reflecting pride and enthusiasm, especially among sailors connected to Navy traditions. The commissioning includes a special appearance by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.
U.S.S. Richard M. McCool finally left Ingalls in Pascagoula at the end of August after years of construction, beginning in 2018.

Four-star general tours warships under construction at Ingalls Shipyard
