Arkansas animal shelter temporarily closed after staff quits
SUMMARY: The city of Malver is facing a severe shortage of space for its 37 dogs, with only 27 kennels available. The shelter has temporarily closed due to the departure of its two full-time employees. Mayor Brenda Weldon stated that part-time workers are currently caring for the animals, but the lack of volunteers following a dog attack earlier this year has compounded the issue. Adoptions are low, and local rescues are at capacity, raising concerns about the potential need to euthanize animals if the situation doesn’t improve and the number of dogs can’t be reduced.
Malvern Mayor Brenda Weldon says the shelter is currently facing several challenges, including overcrowding and a lack of staff.
