Sentencing postponed again for ‘Goon Squad’ officers who plead guilty to torturing 2 Black men
SUMMARY: The sentencing for six Mississippi law enforcement officers who pled guilty to federal felony charges, including civil rights conspiracy and deprivation of rights under color of law, has been postponed by a federal judge. The officers were involved in the warrantless raid, torture, and sexual assault of Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Terrell Parker on January 24, 2023. They were associated with “The Goon Squad,” a group known for excessive force. Their sentencing has been rescheduled for March. All six also face state charges with potential prison sentences ranging from five to 20 years for various offenses. Jenkins and Parker are suing the deputies and have accused them of serious crimes, including attempted murder and deprivation of civil rights.

Over $2.6 million granted in federal assistance following April 8-11 storms

Following a bloody five-year stretch, Jackson officials boast decreasing homicide rates
