Senior residents continue facing rat infestation issues, seek answers amid retaliation fear
SUMMARY: During an interview about a rat infestation at a housing complex, residents expressed fear of retaliation for speaking out, with one resident, Marlay Kennedy, visibly shaken after the report. Despite her willingness to stay in her unit, she received communication suggesting a relocation. Management denied requesting her move, citing privacy concerns. A letter from Harris County Housing Authority pointed to pest issues in her unit, requiring repairs by November 26. Attempts to verify communication between the Authority and the complex were unsuccessful, but guidelines indicated that properties must be free from significant structural issues, which the management seemingly overlooked.
After our first report on an apartment complex dealing with rat issues, a woman at the complex said she received a message from her caseworker saying management asked her if she would be moving properties.

University of Texas to cut water use with new living lab
SUMMARY: The Weaver Powerplant at the University of Texas is the nation’s largest microgrid, relying on gas-powered turbines for campus energy. Director Xavier Rivera Marzán explains that high temperatures can reduce power output, necessitating cooling towers that consume substantial water. To mitigate domestic water use, UT is developing the UT Water Hub, a six-year project set for completion in 2027. This system will treat wastewater for cooling, reducing domestic water consumption by one million gallons and wastewater downstream by 70%. The hub will educate students on sustainability and help maintain power during extreme weather, crucial for ongoing research projects.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) offers critical resources, loans, and support for small businesses, which may be at risk due to these changes. Bradford emphasizes the need for small businesses to adapt through her R3 strategy: refocus, reframe, and reconnect. She notes that many Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs are being rolled back in major corporations, raising concerns about support for minority entrepreneurs.
