Section of roadway in Pontotoc County named in memory of judge and senator Fred Wicker
SUMMARY: Fred Wicker, a former circuit court judge and state senator, is honored with a mile-long stretch of Highway 15 in Ponto named Fred Wicker Boulevard. His son, US Senator Roger Wicker, noted the significance of this tribute, highlighting his father’s efforts in the legislature to expand the highway and add it to the four-lane program starting in 1968. Although faced with obstacles initially, these were eventually overcome, leading to the establishment of the new boulevard, which runs from Highway 278 southward, preserving Fred Wicker’s legacy in the community.
