TN Right to Life decries physician-assisted suicide
SUMMARY: Brewer argues against the legality of physician-assisted suicide (PAS) in the U.S., asserting it contradicts medical ethics defined by the Hippocratic Oath, which mandates doctors to do no harm. Despite a Gallup poll indicating that a majority of Americans support doctor-assisted death under specific terminology, Brewer emphasizes that labeling it as suicide decreases support. Organizations like Tennessee Right to Life, among others, view PAS as morally and ethically concerning, fearing it may lead to coercion, financial incentives, and erosion of trust in the doctor-patient relationship. Brewer insists that all forms of suicide should be opposed, advocating for a consistent pro-life stance.

TN bill would strengthen penalties for nonconsensual camera recordings
SUMMARY: A Nashville man, Matthew Vollmer, allegedly recorded numerous women without their consent using a hidden camera inside an alarm clock. Due to the expired statute of limitations, many victims were unable to pursue charges. In response, the Tennessee legislature introduced the Voyeurism Victim’s Act, which could allow victims to file charges based on when the recordings were discovered, extending the statute of limitations. This bill, supported by State Senator Jeff Yarbro, also seeks to elevate unlawful photography from a misdemeanor to a felony in severe cases. Activist Erika Thomas hopes the legislation will aid future victims in seeking justice.
