Sealy on retirement from Hattiesburg Police Department
SUMMARY: Hattiesburg Police Chief Peggy Sealy announced her retirement after more than three decades with the department. She started as a meter maid in 1988 and worked her way up to police chief in 2021, becoming the first female to hold the position. She has been recognized for securing a pay raise and a new building for the department, as well as pushing for technological upgrades. Her retirement will be at the end of January 2024. Sealy said her greatest accomplishment was working with other officers and getting to know the community. Colleagues and the mayor praised her for making Hattiesburg a better and safer place.
