SCOTUS to hear appeal in death row inmate's case
SUMMARY: The Oklahoma Supreme Court will review the case of Richard Glossip, a death row inmate sentenced for the 1997 murder of motel owner Barry Van Trees. Glossip, who maintains his innocence, has faced execution attempts nine times. Recently, both Oklahoma’s Attorney General and Glossip’s attorneys requested that the U.S. Supreme Court grant him a new trial, claiming prosecutors withheld crucial evidence that could have altered the verdict. In contrast, the Van Trees family seeks to uphold Glossip’s conviction, expressing frustration over the prolonged legal process. The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments regarding Glossip’s request on Wednesday.

Frustration nears boiling point over pipeline construction
SUMMARY: Local property owners are fighting against Phillips 66, which plans to build a crude oil pipeline through their land using eminent domain. Longtime farmer Don Crow describes the damage to his property, worsened by recent rainfall, which has transformed usable land into a muddy mess. Crow and neighbors, affected despite not having their land taken, are in district court contesting the project, which they argue is poorly managed. Phillips 66 claims the project serves a public good and that homeowners rejected fair compensation. Legal resolutions are anticipated to drag on into the following year, potentially increasing damage.

Veteran gets Purple Heart decades after service
SUMMARY: A Marine veteran, who was wounded in Vietnam and missed receiving a Purple Heart for decades, was finally honored with the award recently. During combat in September 1968, he was shot in the head at just 19 years old, sustaining serious injuries that led to over a year in the hospital. Although his discharge paperwork overlooked his Purple Heart, efforts from the Marines and Senator James Lankford’s office rectified this error. The ceremony took place at the Norman Veterans Home on Veterans Day, where fellow Marines and family celebrated this long-overdue recognition, honoring his service and sacrifice.
