School report card: JCPS sees increase in math proficiency, decrease in reading
SUMMARY: Doctor Pollio notes that chronic absenteeism and teacher shortages are adversely affecting student success in Louisville schools. However, he is optimistic that reading scores will improve due to the district’s new standardized English curriculum and efforts to stabilize transportation. Although Kentucky Summative Assessment results show some improvement in low-performing schools, JCPS students’ proficiency rates largely remained flat, especially with a decrease in reading scores. With over 20,000 multilingual learners, language barriers affect performance metrics. Conversely, the graduation rate gap between Black and White students has narrowed significantly, achieving an overall graduation rate increase to 88.2% over the past decade.
