Tropical Storm Milton will strengthen into a major category three hurricane before making landfal…
SUMMARY: Tropical Storm Moulton formed earlier today, with winds at 40 mph, moving north-northeast at 3 mph. It is expected to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane by 1 a.m. Monday, then rapidly increase to a Category 2 and potentially Category 3 by Tuesday afternoon before making landfall. While the storm will create stronger rip currents along the Gulf Coast, Alabama will be unaffected due to a cold front. This front will bring cooler, drier air, leading to fall-like conditions in the region next week with temperatures in the mid-50s at night and highs in the upper 70s.

Milton forecast to become a major hurricane, Significant impacts along the FL peninsula: 4p Saturday
SUMMARY: Meteorologist Alis Grant Skinner reports on the active tropics, with Hurricane Kirk and Hurricane Leslie in the Atlantic, while Tropical Storm Milton, formed today, poses a significant threat to the Florida Peninsula. Currently at 40 mph, Milton is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane by Tuesday. The forecast indicates landfall near Tampa, with potential for severe storm surge and inland flooding, possibly 5-7 inches in some areas. Residents are advised to prepare hurricane safety plans. While the News 5 area may experience minor impacts, updates will be provided continuously on WKRG.com and TV.
Meteorologist Grant Skinner gives an update on the tropical activity in the Atlantic Basin. The News 5 First Alert Storm Team is tracking Kirk and Leslie which are both hurricanes in the central Atlantic, but these do not pose a threat to our area. There is a new area off the west coast of Africa that has a low chance of formation, and it also does not pose a threat. The last system is Tropical Storm Milton in the western Gulf of Mexico. It is forecast to become a major hurricane before making landfall along the west coast of Florida bringing significant impacts to the FL peninsula. A cold front will keep this system on that east/northeast track, so no direct impacts are expected for the News 5 area. Rough surf and gusty winds will still be possible as this system passes far to our south next week.

Brief Coastal Showers Saturday, Watching the Tropics: Saturday Morning Forecast 10/5/2024
SUMMARY: The Storm Team forecast indicates two hurricanes in the central Atlantic and another system off the West African coast, though none pose a threat to the News 5 area. A Gulf system is expected to impact the Florida Peninsula, potentially developing into a tropical depression or storm by Monday. In local weather, temperatures are around 73ยฐF in Downtown Mobile, with scattered cloud cover and mild conditions. A slight chance of brief showers exists along the coast today, with afternoon highs in the mid-80s. A frontal change by next week will bring drier, cooler weather and lower humidity.
After a wet day Friday, we will keep the cloud cover today but have limited rain chances this weekend. We start this morning with temperatures at around 70ยฐ, and we will warm into the mid-80’s by the afternoon. A few showers are possible mainly in our coastal spots, and we will keep mostly cloudy skies. Tonight, we will drop back to around 70ยฐ with scattered cover continuing. Sunday will bring more of the same besides more breaks in the clouds by the second half of the day. Once a cold front can dive south and through the area by Monday evening, we will see drier conditions for much of next week with highs in the low-80’s and lows dropping to around 60ยฐ. That front will keep any tropical activity to the south of the News 5 area. In the tropics, we are tracking Kirk and Leslie which are both hurricanes in the central Atlantic, but these do not pose a threat to our area. There is a new area off the west coast of Africa that has a low chance of formation, and it also does not pose a threat. The last area is in the Gulf of Mexico, and there is a high chance that a tropical system will form in the next week. A frontal boundary over northern portions of the Gulf will keep this on an easterly track towards the Florida peninsula.
The WKRG News 5 First Alert Storm Team covers part of southeast Mississippi, southwestern Alabama, and northwest Florida. You can also view the full Saturday morning forecast for the Gulf Coast here: https://tinyurl.com/5dp9smer
