Sarah Boone trial: Jury selected in Winter Park suitcase murder trial
SUMMARY: In the Sarah Boon suitcase murder trial, a jury has been selected after four days of proceedings. The case revolves around Boon, accused of zipping her boyfriend, George Torres, in a suitcase and leaving him to die during a drunken game. The prosecution argues she cannot claim self-defense as no immediate threat was present after she had already confined him. The defense intends to use the battered spouse syndrome, citing prior abuse Torres inflicted on Boon. Opening statements are set to begin tomorrow. In a lighter note, Boon’s request for courtroom snacks was denied.

A jury has been selected and sworn-in in the trial against Sarah Boone, the Florida woman accused of killing her boyfriend, Jorge Torres, in Feb. 2020 by locking him inside a suitcase during an apparent drunken game of hide-and-seek inside their Winter Park apartment.

Great white shark, whales spotted off South Florida's coast
SUMMARY: Great white sharks, humpback whales, and gray whales have recently been spotted near South Florida’s coast, captivating local fishermen. Captain James Pacovi encountered a great white while fishing in the Keys, while Captain Ryan Preston recorded a rare humpback sighting in Biscayne Bay. Experts believe these sightings signal major changes in ocean patterns, possibly linked to climate change. Humpback whales, typically found offshore, migrate from the North Atlantic to warmer Caribbean waters for breeding. Additionally, a gray whale was inexplicably sighted near Sunny Isles Beach after being absent from the Atlantic for centuries, raising further questions about these marine changes.

Erika Rodriguez reports experts say the sightings by fishermen are rare.

A cache of explosives in Sydney provoked antisemitic terrorism fears. Police now say it was faked
SUMMARY: Australian police revealed that an explosives-filled trailer found in Sydney, initially believed to be part of an antisemitic terrorism plot, was actually a sophisticated hoax by criminals seeking personal gain. Despite its alarming appearance, officials confirmed the trailer was never intended to detonate, lacking a detonator. Investigators believe the perpetrators aimed to distract authorities and leverage the situation for reduced criminal sentences. This revelation followed a series of antisemitic crimes in Australia’s major cities, which were committed by a small group rather than ideologically motivated individuals. The situation has heightened concerns within the Jewish community, despite the absence of true extremist intent behind the incidents.
