Florida sues DHS for refusing to verify voter registration citizenship information | Florida
SUMMARY: Florida has filed a lawsuit against DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for failing to provide citizenship status information about registered voters, despite legal obligations. The state‘s request for data on potentially noncitizen voters was denied, prompting Attorney General Ashley Moody to take action after previous attempts to access voter verification through the SAVE program. Moody argues that only American citizens should vote and highlights the federal government‘s role in ensuring accurate voter rolls. The lawsuit requests the court compel DHS to provide the information needed to verify voter immigration status, citing violations of federal laws. Other states, including Texas, have made similar requests.
