16-year-old victim of fatal shooting in Columbus is identified
SUMMARY: A shooting in East Columbus, Mississippi, resulted in the death of 16-year-old Marquez Carter on September 28. The incident occurred around 3:23 p.m. on Constance Lane, where two individuals were shot—one aged 17, who was treated and released from the hospital, and Carter, who died at the scene. Juvenile charged with multiple counts of Auto Burglary
SUMMARY: On September 26, around 2:10 a.m., the Columbus Police Department responded to a vehicle burglary on 6th Street North. The victim identified a Black male suspect dressed in all black, who fled when approached by officers. With assistance from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, a juvenile was apprehended and charged with multiple counts of auto burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. He was taken to the Lowndes County Juvenile Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers or the Columbus Police Department.
