Rotary Club of Pass Christian hosts 2024 Paddle the Bay Fundraiser
SUMMARY: The Rotary Club of Pass Christian held its 2024 fundraiser, “Paddle the Bay,” at Henderson Point Park. Founded in 1924, it is the oldest service organization in the area, traditionally hosting a drawdown event. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, they introduced “Paddle the Bay,” where participants enjoy kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. This annual event, featuring food, beverages, music, and a silent auction, has become their sole fundraiser, supporting various community needs. Outgoing president highlighted the club’s mission to address local needs, aiding schools and organizations. This new format has been successful over the last few years.

FIRST ALERT: Storms possible overnight (03/08/2025)

Happening March 7: Celebration of Black Culture Through the Arts
SUMMARY: On March 7, students from Gulfport and Meridian high schools are performing together to celebrate Black culture through the arts. The event extends Black History Month by showcasing two powerful stories: Gulfport’s African-American folktale, *Wy and the Harry Man*, set in Alabama, and Meridian’s original production about the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church. The performances emphasize the importance of understanding history to prevent violence and promote empathy. Both student bodies collaborated, appreciating the chance to connect and learn from each other. The free event starts at 7:00 PM at Center Stage.

Mardi Gras Tornado Damage in George County
SUMMARY: On Mardi Gras Day 2025, an EF1 tornado touched down in eastern George County, confirmed by the National Weather Service shortly after 7 PM. The tornado, characterized by peak winds of 100 mph and a narrow path of only 30 yards wide, caused significant damage in just one minute. It left a trail of destruction between highways 63 and 613, uprooting trees and damaging structures. Reports included twisted metal and debris scattered across properties. Fortunately, the weather following the event improved, with sunny conditions expected, although a level one risk for storms is anticipated for the upcoming Saturday night.

An EF1 tornado has been confirmed in George Co. from the Mardi Gras thunderstorms.
