Fort Smith approves second $2.1 million for Parrot Island Waterpark expansion
SUMMARY: During a recent board meeting, some members opposed adding new waterslides at the water park, arguing the city’s funding should also address necessary infrastructure improvements. The city approved an additional $2.1 million, part of a total $4.2 million budget, for the design and installation of five new slides, which will double the current slide count. One opposing director expressed concerns about the lack of a lease with the county, insufficient parking, and restroom facilities, claiming it could lead to future problems. Conversely, other board members highlighted the funding’s potential to attract more visitors to the city.
