SUMMARY: Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters plans to use over $3 million from the payroll budget of the Department of Education to purchase 55,000 Bibles for public schools, mirroring a version endorsed by former President Trump. This has prompted State Representative Mark McBride to request an opinion from Attorney General Gettner Drummond on the legality of this action, as it seems to violate a law preventing agencies from reallocating funds in such a manner. McBride criticized Walters’ approach as dictatorial, expressing concern over the imposed nature of these changes and calling for a thorough investigation into the Department’s actions.

SUMMARY: A Northwest Oklahoma City woman, Augusta, is suing the inspection team and sellers of her home, which she claims has severe mold issues, flooding, and crumbling walls. After purchasing the house in 2022, an inspection reportedly found minor maintenance issues but no significant concerns. However, within a month, Augusta faced persistent flooding and discovered mold, worsening her asthma. Her doctor noted her lung function has decreased due to mold exposure. Augusta has incurred significant expenses in attempts to address the problems, prompting her lawsuit, which alleges misrepresentation of the property’s condition. The case is ongoing.

SUMMARY: In a surprising election, Oklahoma voters ousted Justice Conner Karger from the state Supreme Court by a narrow margin, marking a significant shift as incumbents rarely face removal. Justices James Edmondson and No Mode Garage retained their seats. This election, influenced by aggressive political ads, has sparked discussions on judicial reform and the role of political action committees. Following Karger’s removal, the Oklahoma Judiciary Nominating Commission will accept applications for her replacement, submitting three candidates to Governor Kevin Stitt. Critics express concern over political influence on judicial decisions, emphasizing the need for impartiality within the courts.
