SUMMARY: Tennessee ranks fifth in Truth in Accounting’s Financial State of the States report, with a $9,600 surplus per taxpayer. Despite a $3.2 billion accumulation for bill payments, uncertainties surround the state’s pensions, which rose in 2023. The increase in net pension liability partly offset reported revenue gains, as investments in closed pension plans underperformed. The state’s unfunded pension and retiree health care benefits each stand at $1.1 billion. While most states improved financially in fiscal year 2023, Sheila Weinberg emphasizes the importance of strengthening retirement systems against economic uncertainties. North Dakota leads with a $55,600 surplus, while Connecticut ranks lowest at $44,400 per taxpayer.

Serial killer could be tied to Nashville cold case

Published

www.youtube.com – WKRN News 2 – 2024-11-21 18:22:34

SUMMARY: In 1979, 21-year-old Nashville mother Gail Norris was found murdered, stabbed multiple times. This cold case has remained unsolved for decades until recently, when Detective Weaver was contacted by her family, suggesting a possible connection to infamously convicted serial killer Samuel Little, who confessed to numerous murders. Despite the lack of direct evidence linking him to Gail’s case, the detective is revisiting the investigation, which had been dormant since 1979. A notable clue found near her body was an insurance pamphlet. The Nashville Cold Case website, launched last month, aims to gather information and potentially revive interest in solving this enduring mystery.

Anyone with information about the case should email mnpdcoldcase@nashville.gov.
