Report: Red tape adds a burden to Georgia’s businesses | Georgia
SUMMARY: Georgia’s regulatory code has expanded by at least 13% annually since 1965, creating burdens for businesses. Gov. Brian Kemp, focusing on reducing red tape, established the Georgians First Commission to address this issue. A report revealed over 18,000 regulations, with more than half needing review. Some regulations, while safety-oriented, lead to economic costs for businesses and consumers. Challenges like county ordinances, fees, and delays affect new businesses. Kemp’s administration and Lt. Gov. Burt Jones have pushed for regulation cuts, including the “Red Tape Rollback” and a bill to eliminate outdated boards, though not all proposals have passed.
