Rep. Bennie Thompson staffer facing scrutiny for ‘despicable statements’ over Trump attack
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Republican Party is demanding the dismissal of Jacqueline Marsaw, a staffer for Democratic Congressman Bennie Thompson, after she posted offensive remarks on social media about an apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The now-deleted post suggested that the assailant should take better shooting lessons. The Mississippi GOP condemned her comments as despicable, while Thompson condemned the attack and expressed gratitude for law enforcement’s swift response. Superintendent Mississippi News captured Marsaw’s posts before deletion, one insinuating a conspiracy. This incident highlights ongoing tensions between Thompson and Trump, particularly regarding the January 6 insurrection investigation.

Giant ‘sea dragon’ fossil discovered in Mississippi, believed to be largest in state history
SUMMARY: A team from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality discovered a mosasaur vertebra in Oktibbeha County on April 15, 2025, representing one of the largest sea dragons of the late Cretaceous period. The fossil, found in the Prairie Bluff Formation, likely belonged to Mosasaurus hoffmanni, a massive marine predator that could grow up to 50 feet long and weigh 20,000 pounds. Known for its dagger-like teeth, this apex predator dominated the seas while dinosaurs ruled the land. This find marks the largest mosasaur fossil recorded in Mississippi and is now part of the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science’s collection.
