Report: Mississippi sees most-ever school districts with C grade or higher in 2023-24
SUMMARY: Mississippi’s public schools have shown significant improvement, as revealed by the Mississippi Department of Education’s 2023-24 accountability grades. Of the schools, 85.7% and 93.9% of districts received grades of C or higher, surpassing previous years. This reflects successful goals set in 2016 to enhance educational standards, leading to achievements in mathematics, English, and science. Mississippi’s national ranking for K-12 education rose from 50th to 35th since 2013, with a notable 30th place in the 2024 Annie E. Casey Foundation’s KIDS COUNT® Data Book. Improved guidance for teachers and early education policies contributed to this progress.
