Remembering When Marilyn Monroe Won Miss Mississippi
SUMMARY: Mississippi has strong ties to Hollywood, with numerous films shot there, including “O Brother, Where Art Thou” and “The Help.” Although the 1952 romantic comedy “We're Not Married” was not filmed in the state, its storyline is set in Mississippi. Marilyn Monroe played Annabel Jones, crowned Miss Mississippi in the film. Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortenson in 1926, wasn't typically linked with Mississippi, especially small-town Senatobia. The movie features a series of comedic mishaps involving annulled marriages. Monroe's portrayal of Miss Senatobia highlights her enduring charm and contributes to her rise to stardom. The film's notable cast includes Ginger Rogers and Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Let’s Go Fishing! | Our Mississippi Home
SUMMARY: This past weekend, we took our grandson to Elvis Presley Lake in Tupelo for a picnic and fishing adventure, evoking cherished childhood memories. Growing up, my favorite activities were often outdoors, like fishing with my dad. We used simple cane poles and dug our own worms, often finding them under a tin sheet in our yard. Dad patiently taught us fishing techniques, often dealing with tangled lines and celebrating each catch. Reflecting on my own independent streak, I saw similarities in my grandson. These experiences taught me the value of time spent together, embodied by my father's unwavering patience and love.
