SUMMARY: Expect muggy mornings this weekend with fog and mist, but afternoons will bring sunshine. Temperatures will reach 85 today and 87 tomorrow, with a small chance of a stray storm in the Hill Country tomorrow morning due to a dry line in West Texas. On Monday, a cool front will lower temperatures to 80, and Tuesday will see a high of 75. Warm weather returns mid-week with temperatures near 90°. The next potential rain event is expected between April 5th and 7th, depending on the position of a low-pressure system over Mexico, which could bring heavy rainfall.

Georgetown concerned affordable housing bill could hurt future of historic downtown

www.youtube.com – FOX 7 Austin – 2025-03-29 06:23:50

SUMMARY: Georgetown is concerned about a recently passed Texas Senate bill aimed at addressing affordable housing, fearing it may undermine its historic downtown. The city reported significant growth with nearly 12,000 new residents last year, but the bill, SB 840, could allow developers to convert commercial properties to residential without local rezoning, diminishing local control. Mayor Josh Schroer expressed worries this could negatively impact Georgetown’s historic area and prevent the collection of impact fees, placing financial burdens on current residents. While proponents argue it supports homeownership, local officials believe decisions should remain within the community.

This week, the state Senate passed a bill to help meet the demand for affordable housing in Texas. But, the City of Georgetown is asking the House to pump the breaks, fearing it could threaten the future of its historic downtown.

SUMMARY: Popular online food critic Keith Lee surprised Perland-area dessert shop owner Janelle Prader with a $50,000 donation, helping her expand her business. A year ago, the shop faced uncertainty, but Lee’s visit sparked massive support. Now, Prader is opening a larger location offering more than banana pudding and adding a food truck. The new space will create a comfortable environment for customers to relax and work. Grateful for the community’s love, Prader hopes to launch the food truck by April and the renovated shop by her birthday in May. Lee’s contribution brought her expansion dreams to fruition.

Keith Lee helped a Houston-area dessert shop tremendously when he did a review of their tasty treats last year.

This time, though, he brought a different kind of surprise in the form of $50,000.

Inside the small Pearland storefront, big things are happening for The Puddery owner Janel Prator. With Lee’s financial contribution, her expansion plans are coming to fruition sooner than expected.
