Raul Meza case: Judge wants suspected Austin serial killer to stay behind bars | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Mr. Mesa is eager for his legal ordeal to conclude, not only for himself but for the community. His attorney, Russell Hunt, proposed a plea deal of life imprisonment for one murder and 20 years for another, allowing for parole eligibility after 40 years. However, Travis County Judge Julie Curk rejected this, insisting on life without parole. This development brought relief to victims’ families, especially for Tracy Pig, whose sister was killed by Mesa in 1982. Mesa now faces capital murder charges for two recent deaths, and his defense plans to avoid a trial if a suitable deal is established soon.
A Travis County judge wants to keep Raul Meza, a suspected serial killer in the Austin area, behind bars forever.

Trump declares invasion at southwest border, suspends entry | National
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump has officially declared an “invasion” at the U.S. southern border, issuing a proclamation to suspend entry and repel this invasion. This historic move follows similar declarations by 55 Texas counties and a formal opinion from Arizona’s former attorney general validating states’ rights to self-defense under the Constitution. Trump asserts that the federal government has failed to uphold its constitutional obligation to protect states from invasion. His proclamation, effective January 20, allows for the suspension of entry for individuals deemed part of this invasion, emphasizing the need for health and background checks and authorizing federal action to remove these individuals.
