Rankin County judge denies motion for new trial in Carly Madison Gregg case
SUMMARY: A Rankin County judge has denied Carly Madison Gregg’s request for a new trial after she was sentenced to two life terms for murdering her mother and wounding her stepfather. Gregg’s attorneys argued new evidence emerged post-trial from comments made by her father, but prosecutors claimed the motion did not meet procedural standards and the original verdict was sound. Judge Dewey Arthur agreed, stating the new information would not have changed the jury’s decision. Gregg’s case, which gained international media attention during its Court TV broadcast, is currently under appeal at the Mississippi Supreme Court.

How Mississippians can see Comet A3 in the night sky
SUMMARY: Stargazers in Mississippi can still view Comet Tsuchinshan-Atlas (Comet A3) in October, with the last opportunity for naked-eye visibility on Friday, October 26. The comet is best seen 15 to 45 minutes after sunset, located between the constellations Sagittarius and Scorpio, approximately 10 degrees above the horizon. While it shone brightly like the North Star until October 16, its brightness is fading as it moves away from Earth. Observers can enhance their viewing experience with binoculars or a small telescope. This is a rare chance to see Comet A3, last visible around 80,000 years ago.
