Rankin County inmate attacked deputy after guilty verdict

During the altercation, he tried to overpower a Rankin County Sheriff Deputy, and both ended up on the ground, resulting in the deputy sustaining minor to moderate injuries. Lever, previously scheduled for sentencing in January, now faces additional charges including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, attempted escape, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, disobeying a police officer, and resisting arrest. He has been booked into the Rankin County Detention Center for treatment.
