Salaries for two public university presidents creep toward $1 million a year
SUMMARY: Two Mississippi public university presidents now earn nearly $1 million annually, while faculty and staff pay remains stagnant. The high salaries come from state funds and substantial supplements from private university foundations. Ole Miss' Glenn Boyce and Mississippi State's Mark Keenum each earn $950,000, with retention bonuses potentially adding up to $1.4 million and $800,000, respectively, if they stay until their contracts end. Despite these high salaries, average faculty pay has decreased due to inflation. The Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) Board, which considers salary decisions confidential, aims to increase faculty and staff pay in the future.
