Rail workers ready to reduce one steep Biloxi crossing

SUMMARY: The Main Street railroad crossing in Biloxi is being upgraded for safety after a 2017 incident where a CSX train crashed into a stuck bus, sending 35 people to the hospital and killing four. The crossing has been problematic for years due to its steepness and the tendency for commercial vehicles to get stuck on the tracks. Construction to replace the current grade with a new one is set to cost about $318,000 and is being funded by the city, CSX, and MDOT. Upgrades had been in the works prior to the accident, but progress has been slow due to multiple entities being involved.
