Protesters demand Kellogg remove artificial colors from Froot Loops and other cereals
SUMMARY: About a thousand protesters gathered outside Kellogg’s Michigan headquarters, demanding the removal of artificial dyes from U.S. cereals. Mothers expressed concern over feeding their children healthy foods free of chemicals. While Kellogg pledged nearly ten years ago to eliminate artificial colors in other countries, U.S. products like Froot Loops still contain dyes linked to potential behavioral issues in children. California recently banned such dyes in public school food. Despite criticisms, Kellogg maintains its products meet federal standards, and the FDA states most children do not experience adverse effects; however, critics argue the FDA’s criteria overlook possible neurological impacts.
Dozens of people rallied outside the Michigan headquarters of WK Kellogg Co. Tuesday, demanding that the company remove artificial dyes from its breakfast cereals in the U.S.

Audit: Ports Authority reports positive net change of $50.1M | North Carolina
SUMMARY: The North Carolina State Ports Authority reported a positive net change of $50.1 million for fiscal year 2024, according to a state auditor’s analysis. The audit found no material weaknesses or compliance issues. The increase primarily resulted from $45 million in state capital appropriations, along with improved investment income. Key developments included investments in container operations, intermodal services, and expanded refrigeration, enhancing the Port of Wilmington. However, global disruptions, such as those affecting the Panama Canal and Suez Canal, negatively impacted container and terminal volumes. The fiscal 2025 budget anticipates a return to normal cargo volumes.

Cooper, FEMA blame misinformation for threats
SUMMARY: Governor Roy Cooper and FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell addressed threats against FEMA workers in western North Carolina, attributing the incident to misinformation. A single credible threat led to a pause in operations, with 44-year-old William Parsons charged for threatening workers while armed. Both officials highlighted the negative impact of misinformation on aid applications and community safety, with Cooper condemning Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson for contributing to the problem. Despite concerns, FEMA operations have resumed. In a positive development, the North Carolina Forest Service is collaborating with McDowell County Emergency Services to build foot bridges for residents affected by severe damage.
Governor Roy Cooper said during a news conference Tuesday that 92 people are still unaccounted for in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene killed hundreds across the southeast.
