Protecting your packages during the holiday season
SUMMARY: Many farmers are experiencing crop theft and are looking for solutions. Crime is on the rise and more people are ordering online, leading to increased opportunities for porch pirates. A 2023 survey showed that over 21 billion packages were shipped, but not all made it to their destination. Criminals are taking advantage of this opportunity, even targeting carriers like Amazon and UPS. These carriers are implementing lockers to help secure deliveries and prevent theft. Farmers like Jay Harrison are asking for more consistent days of crops alive and looking for ways to prevent further theft and loss.

Here are some tips for preventing ‘porch pirates’ from turning the season of giving into the season of taking.

Governor signs bill eliminating state income tax
SUMMARY: Governor Tate Reeves signed a bill that gradually reduces Mississippi’s state income tax by 0.25% each year until 2030, reaching a total reduction of 3%. Additionally, the state’s grocery tax, currently the highest in the U.S. at 7%, will be cut to 5% starting July 1st. To offset revenue losses, the gas tax will rise by $0.09 per gallon. Reeves emphasized that the policy supports hard-working residents and positions Mississippi for growth. House Bill 1, now law, may still be amended before taking effect, with changes being discussed in a conference committee regarding a new trigger system.
