Protect your health with respiratory illnesses on the rise.
SUMMARY: More people are getting sick with illnesses like strep, flu, COVID-19, and RSV as winter progresses in Mississippi. According to the CDC, Mississippi has some of the highest rates of respiratory illnesses in the nation. Family Nurse Practitioner Kane McCool at Medplus stated that they are treating dozens of patients with these illnesses, with the flu and COVID-19 being the most common. McCool also mentioned that weaker immune systems and lack of proper hygiene are contributing to the rise in cases. He emphasized the importance of coughing and sneezing into one’s elbow, frequent handwashing, and sanitizing surfaces to prevent the spread of germs. McCool also advised individuals to get tested if they suspect they are sick.

How Isaac Smith became MSU’s top defender
SUMMARY: Isaac Smith, a safety for Mississippi State, emerged as a football standout at Itawamba Agricultural High School, attracting Division I offers. Coming from an athletic family, with his father playing at Ole Miss, Isaac’s first offer also came from there. However, he felt a strong connection with Mississippi State and its late coach Mike Leach, who he admired for his kindness, including attending a game when Isaac wasn’t playing. Following Leach’s unexpected passing, Isaac sought guidance through prayer and ultimately chose Mississippi State, feeling called to be there. Today, he remains committed, regardless of coaching changes.
