Proposed program could help Hattiesburg neighbors with sewage issues

SUMMARY: The Hattiesburg City Council proposed a supplemental environmental drainage and sewage project to replace older pipes and alleviate overflows. The program will replace sewer lines on private properties for low to moderate income property owners who are experiencing sewage and drainage issues. An RFP will be put out for plumbers to help with the project. This opportunity will clean up issues with stormwater getting into the sanitary system and reduce overflows and infiltration. The proposal will be discussed at the next Hattiesburg City Council meeting in two weeks. Mary Beth Bergin, Director of Transportation and Engineering for the City of Hattiesburg, expressed the importance of the project.
